Introductions
Me:
My name is Jay Orlando. I'm a poet by day and a TTRPG and comic book enthusiast in my free time. I play in 1-2 group games a week, and I'm beginning my journey into solo RP here, on my blog.
The primary function of this space is to provide play reports and thoughts on my Solo RP journey, but I may occasionally branch out into my group games and comics. I'm attempting to cultivate a space here where I'm exercising my imagination and creative writing in a stress-free zone, as opposed to the frankly cutthroat world of publishing poetry. I hope you'll join me and enjoy taking this journey alongside me.
The first system I intend to solo, with the help of the Mythic GM Emulator (2nd edition), is Old School Essentials. I'll be using the Advanced Rules, but my beginning characters are all human, and it will be a human-centric campaign. I'm a big fan of the OSR, but there will be a variety of games showcased over time.
The Game:
I've rolled up three characters: A Cleric, a Fighter, and a Magic-User. I've used the excellent Cairn 2e Warden's guide to generate a region and several factions. Each character has a name and a sketch of a background.
House Rules:
- All characters are starting with maximum health for their class at level 1.
- I am using the Carcass Crawler alternative slot-based encumbrance rules.
- Shields can be sacrificed to offset damage. In allowing a shield to be sundered the attacker does only half damage on the attack.
- If a fighter lands a killing blow he can immediately attack another target.
- I'll be playing a little fast and loose with timekeeping and such, to focus on pushing the narrative. If that annoys you, well, apologies.
- I'll probably be using a downed system as opposed to death at zero HP. Probably rounds = level to be stabilized.
